2013 Frankfurt Motor Show: Brabus B63S-700 6x6 Revealed
Tuning the already excessive Mercedes G63 AMG, which has more than proven itself through service with the Australian Army, is probably unnecessary but that’s what the engineers at Brabus have done.
They’ve made it more powerful by improving the Bi-turbo engine to produce another 150bhp thanks to the addition of dual turbos and a stainless steel sport exhaust. The result is the 700bhp Brabus B63S-700 that accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 7.4 seconds, which is pretty quick considering this machine tips the scales at 4-tons. It can't get much quicker than 62mph as Brabus has limited it to a 100mph top speed for safety reasons as the 37-inch off-road tyres wouldn’t be able to cope.
Although it’s not all that quick, there’s plenty of power as there’s 959Nm of peak torque available. Brabus has used AMG’s Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox and added five differential locks to make sure that their version of the G63 AMG is a great off roader. Brabus has added performance catalysts with downpipes that lower back pressure and a butterfly valve is used to optimise power. There are two modes in which the exhaust system can work: ‘Sport’ and ‘Coming Home’ which change the amount of noise generated through the exhaust.
Brabus has also given the BS65 a more aggressive look, adding chrome throughout the exterior including on the grille, bumpers and along both flanks. Carbon fibre has also been used and there are plenty of Brabus badges to distinguish this from the G63 AMG on which it’s based. Inside the firm’s branding continues but the red quilted leather draws more attention than the collection of embroidered Brabus badges.
The car that the German tuners are calling a “power off-roader” is not yet available to the public and the price is yet to be confirmed.
