44% car production increase in April

The UK car industry looks to have firmly put the recession behind it with news that production rocketed by 44% in April, compared to the same month last year.

According to the stats from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) a very impressive 98,290 cars came off the production line last month. Paul Everitt the CEO from SMMT praised the figure saying; ‘A number of UK product launches and the introduction of new technologies are helping to sustain demand despite an expected slowdown following the end of the scrappage scheme. The home market saw a significant increase in the month, a positive indication of a strengthening economy and an improvement in consumer confidence.’

Other good news is that commercial vehicles rose by 40%, UK engine production is up 38% and domestic car production grew by 150.5%. Recession, close the door on the way out will you?
