What do you get for the luxury price of a Bentley Mulsanne?

The Bentley Mulsanne was first introduced to the British car-buying public in 1980, and was sold until 1992. Production was then halted until a new model Bentley Mulsanne hit the market in 2010.

One of the world's most expensive everyday use, high-end luxury cars, the modern day Bentley Mulsanne is priced from £225,900 and up. But, for that kind of money, what do you actually get?

British made - If you're looking for a luxury car that's made in the UK, then the Bentley Mulsanne is it. Other than a few electrical parts, and the HVAC system, all of the Bentley Mulsanne, including the body, is manufactured in Crewe in England.

A larger but lighter car than the Arnage - The car the Bentley Mulsanne took over from, the Arnage, was slightly smaller yet, surprisingly, heavier. The Mulsanne is seven inches longer, and almost 70 pounds lighter. The use of aluminium for much of the body is one of the reasons.

Improved fuel economy - Bentley has completely revamped the twin-turbo V-8 engine, making it more fuel efficient. The new 8-speed ZF automatic transmission has also helped. In fact, Bentley says they've decreased fuel consumption by 15 percent. Not bad for a car that weighs more than 5,700 pounds.

Four suspension modes - You don't get a much smoother ride than the Bentley Mulsanne. With its four selectable suspension modes, for use depending on what type of terrain you're driving on, you may just never feel a bump again. Plus, it's as steady as a rock just about anywhere.

Exquisite interior - You don't want to know how many cows were killed to provide the leather for the interior (okay, we've heard at least 17 per car), but every piece of the interior of the Bentley Mulsanne is leather, stainless steel or the most beautiful, glossy walnut wood you've ever seen.

Seats are heated and cooled, and the rear ones even have a massage feature. Add in the 17-speaker stereo system, and the fact that wind and noise supression is so good you'll actually be able to hear the music playing, and there are very few cards like this on the road today.

Choice of paint and leather - The buyer of a standard Bentley Mulsanne will be offered a choice of 28 paint colours and 24 different shades and colours of leather. If you buy the upgraded Mulsanne, your colour choices suddenly shoot up to 114 paint colours, and a specialist will work with you to make sure you get the right paint and leather combination.

Don't forget the extras

Should you have the extra money, the Bentley Mulsanne doesn't stop there. The Executive Interior Concept (EIC) adds in three rear LCD screens, iPads that appear like magic on foldout trays and come with Bluetooth keyboards, and in-car high-speed Wi-Fi.

You may never have to go to your office again if you purchase a Bentley Mulsanne. You could just spend your life in the back seat of your car on video conference calls.
