Alonso storms the British Grand Prix

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is mounting a late title charge, winning the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday and moving up to second in the drivers' championship in the process.

Though he realistically would need a miracle to catch Sebastian Vettel, who holds an 80 point advantage over his rival. The world championship leader had to settle for second place, depsite leading for much of the race. But both Red Bull drivers had bad pit stops, allowing Alonso's Ferrari, which was getting faster as the race progressed, to take the lead.

Vettel's teammate Mark Webber almost snatched second off him, but was told by his team to hold his position. Lewis McLaren came in fourth, after fending off a last minute challenge from Felipe Massa. His team mate Jenson Button had to retire after his front right wheel came loose as he was exiting the pit lane.
