Aston Martin Rapide S Reinvigorated Version at Geneva Motor Show
With the 83rd Geneva Motor Show coming to an end many of the highlights have already been covered, but not to be out done by the likes of Ferrari and McLaren, Aston Martin have also used the motor show to unveil a super car, the updated Aston Martin Rapide S.
At the motor show Aston Martin’s CEO, Dr Ulrich Bez told press that “The car's stunning visual appeal is now matched by a much more powerful and yet more efficient engine – our exceptional new AM11 V12 – which increases massively both the excitement and performance potential of the Rapide S.”
The reworked Rapide still uses the AM11 normally-aspirated 6 litre V-12 but it now pumps out 550 hp, which is 80 hp more than the existing car. There’s 20 Nm of torque more than the existing car, and when combined with the Touchtronic 2 six-speed gearbox, 4 tenths of a second can be taken from the 0-62 mph time so drivers of the new machine will get there in 4.7 seconds. The top speed of Aston’s four-door grand tourer is 190 mph top speed, but the fuel economy of 19.9 mpg won’t get you far on one tank.
The Dynamic Stability Control system’s been revised to cope with the increased performance and the Adaptive Damping System has also been modified. The ADS system, which automatically alters the suspension settings now have three modes – normal, sport and track.
Inside there’s a new piano black interior that’s handcrafted as you would expect from the luxury sports car brand, and there are plenty of different options to allow for customisation including a ‘Carbon Exterior Pack’ which comes with a new front splitter and rear diffuser.
The order book will soon open for the Aston Martin Rapide S, which will be available throughout the car maker’s 146 worldwide dealerships.
