Aston Martin Track Day at Red Bull Ring: Aston Martin Big 5

If you’d like to experience the full power of an Aston Martin you’ve got to let it loose on a racetrack so we’re not surprised that 80 Aston Martin owners took up the manufacturer’s offer to spend the day at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria as part of the firm’s annual Big 5 series.

The weekend featured some of the latest and fastest Astons on the planet, including the new V-12 Vantage S, the DB9, the Vantage SP10 and the Vanquish also lapped the 2.688 mile, 10 turn race track. But the quickest machines around the lap were the super-quick One-77 supercars. With a 7.3 litre V-12 engine under the hood that’s mid-mounted, the One-77 drivers had 750bhp and 750Nm of peak torque to play with, which is good for a top speed of 220mph and a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds.

Now that the One-77’s limited production run is over the V-12 Vantage S is the fastest car produced by the British prestige car maker. Aston are claiming that the 2014 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S can get to 62mph in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 205mph, speeds that aren’t that much lower and slower than the limited edition One-77 manages.

Along with Spa Francorchamps in Belgium and the Nurburgring in Germany, the Red Bull Ring in Austria is one of three race tracks that Aston offer in Aston’s Big 5, a yearlong series of events that allow Aston drivers to test their Aston Martins at race tracks, the Boxberg proving ground in Germany and on ice in St Moritz, Switzerland. Each event is designed to mimic the experience of owning an Aston because owners stay in five-star luxury accommodation and experience speed. The lucky few now have St Moritz in February 2014 to look forward to.
