Audi R8: the review
When it comes to supercars, the Audi R8 is amazing. Patterned after the Lamborghini Gallardo platform, its 4.2-litre engine delivers 430hp at 7,900 rpm. These are not the only things going for the supercar. The combination of stunning looks, performance, and superb road handling makes it appealing to consumers and car aficionados.
The Audi R8 comes in Coupe and Spyder models. Like previous makes, the new Audi R8 is fitted with the Audi Quattro all-wheel drive and full LED headlight technology. The wheels are 19” 5-double spoke with front (235/35) and back (295/30) summer performance tyres.
Very responsive with a good handling and stable grip on road surfaces, the supercar can be controlled at the touch of a button. Drivers have 2 options before them: 'Normal’ or ‘Sport.’ This makes it easy to customise the ride without many body movements. The magnetic rides also preview the road conditions ahead to improve driving, handling and comfort.
The Audi R8 comes with a CD player compatible with MP3 files, Sat-Nav, and Bluetooth. It has seven speakers.
Perhaps when it comes to performance, the inspiration from the most successful Le Mans racing car of all time makes the difference. The coupe has a 4.2-litre FSI engine with 8 cylinders forming a ‘V’. Pretty much like a Formula 1 racing car, the Coupe for example, is constructed in a ‘mid-air configuration.'
It comes with optional 7-speed S tronic gearbox. Intuitive for a smooth power transmission, dual clutches are working side by side. It is capable of hitting 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds with top speed clocking in at 186 mph.
An outstanding road performance makes the Audi R8 a class in its own. However, this did not prevent the auto industry to compare it with other brands such as Porsche and Aston Martin. Media publications hailed Audi as the supercar to beat the Porsche 997. R8 accolades include 2008 World Car of the Year and Best Handling and Fastest Car in the World in 2007.
Good looks, powerful engine, improved aerodynamics, posh interior these are just some of the best features of the Audi R8. Such beauty and performance of course come with a price. If you want to get your hands on one, be prepared to pay £92,710 for the FSI Quattro and £128,710 for the V10.
