Behind the scenes at F1

In many ways the UK lags behind the rest of the world in terms of car manufacturing, but in motorsport it is in fact a world leader, with eight UK-based Formula One teams. As part of National Motorsport Week, all eight teams are opening their doors to the public, allowing you to see how the teams design, build and run the cars.

You have to enter a competition online for the chance to win one of the twenty places up for grabs on VIP visits to F1 headquarters. The tours will take in Red Bull, McLaren Mercedes, Merussia Virgin Racing, Team Lotus, Williams, Force India, Lotus Renault and Mercedes GP Petronas.

Colin Hilton, chief exec of the Motor Sports Association, said: 'We are delighted that the eight UK-based F1 teams are leading National Motorsport Week from the front by opening their doors to the public, particularly at the height of their busiest period around the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the British Grand Prix.'

'While their participation helps to underline the UK's leadership in international motorsport, National Motorsport Week is about much more than F1; it's about people getting out there and getting involved in motorsport for the first time,' he added.
