The highly anticipated Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has been unveiled in Detroit during the 2013 North America International Auto Show. The début of the new Stingray marks the 60th anniversary of the original car's reveal occurred in New York.
The sportscar is the most powerful production version ever built by the manufacturer, being equipped with a mighty 6.2-litre V8 engine that produces power output of 450hp and 610 Nm of peak torque. The new Stingray gets direct-injection, variable valve timing, which shut down the four cylinders of the engine at low throttle, to improve efficiency and performance. The 0-100 Km/h (0-62 mph) is covered in less than four seconds, consuming less than 9 litres of fuel per 100 Km.
The new Corvette Stingray has been built using totally new components, even the chassis and engine were specifically created, as well as the exterior and interior design. The bodywork is characterised by race-proven aero package, which improve stability and performance while reducing fuel consumption, especially on the track. The car boasts extensive use of lightweight materials, like carbon fibre for the roof panel and hood, carbon composites for doors, fenders and rear quarter panels and carbon-nano composites for underbody shielding.
Inside the passenger compartment we also find plenty of carbon fibre and aluminium details, hand-stitched leather sports seats and a high-tech infotainment system featuring eight-inch screen. Not to mention Drive Mode Selector with five driving modes and adjustable dampers to suit the driver's handling needs, from track to comfort cruising. The supercar gets an all new seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching, which matches engine speed on downshifts, and also a six-speed automatic box.
Chevrolet hasn't confirmed prices for the new Corvette Stingray, although the car is expected to hit the market during Summer 2013. If you are interested in shipping one of these beautiful supercars to the U.K. You should be aware that they will be available in left-hand drive only.
