Smoking is bad for your health. Ths is a well known fact at this stage. However, despite constant health warning everywhere you look, people still do it. So to encourage smokers to give up the cancer sticks, the government has unveiled a new strategy – making it illegal to smoke whilst driving.
The ‘tobacco control strategy’ intends to cut the number of smokers in the UK by half by 2020 with the Health Secretary Mr Andy Burnham saying: ‘I make no apology when it comes to protecting children and giving them the best start in life’. A very valid point but some have called the new plan ‘unworkable’.
The proposal doesn’t suggest that smoking behind the wheel is dangerous only that it’s another incentive to stop smoking. Smoke related deaths in the UK per year reached 80,000 according to latest figures.
