First 2014 Ducati Monster 1200 rolls off the production line
The very first Ducati Monster 1200rolled off the production line the other day in Borgo Panigale in special ceremony with the CEO of the company Claudio Domenicali.
The Italian manufacturer is gearing up to launch the brand new bike in dealerships across Europe in March, while Americans will have to wait for April to get their hands on the brand new ‘monster madness’.
Ducati's third generationof iconic Monsters (the first ever Monster model was unveiled in Cologne in 1992) was voted as the "Most Beautiful Bike of Show" on the closing day of the 71st annual edition of the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan last year beating out even the stunning MV Agusta Turismo Veloce 800.
The 2014 Ducati Monster 1200 is priced at €13,490($18,270), while if you want the 1200 S version expect to dish out €15,990($21,655).
Ducati’s new Monster 1200 now features the second generation superbike-derived liquid-cooled 1198 Testastretta 11° DS (dual spark) engine, instead of the traditional air-cooled L-twin.
The Monster 1200 is able to deliver 99,3 kW (135 CV) and 118 Nm (12,0 kgm) of torque at 7.250 rpm, while the even more sportier 1200 S version features a dedicated RbW mapping that brings to the road 106,6 kW (145 hp) of power @ 8,750 rpm and 124,5 Nm (91.8 lb-ft) of torque at the same rpm.
The bike also features a completely redesigned Ducati steel trellis racing derived frame that uses the engine as a stressed element, attached to the cylinders head, thus giving the Monster an even more ‘muscular’ look, but the machine is lightweight and has the lowest curb weight in its category, just 209 kg.
The 2014 Monster is equipped with an eight-level Ducati Traction Control (DTC) system and three riding modes(urban, sport and touring).
The 1200 Monster comes in Ducati red with red frame and black wheels, while the S is also featured in red with red frame and black wheels or white with bronze-colored frame and black wheels.
