Hamilton ecstatic after win

After seeing off challenges from Red Bull's Mark Webber and old arch rival Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton was ecstatic at his win in Germany.

"Every win is special, but with the emotion, the effort and the energy that the team put into this win today, it all feels even more special than usual,' the 2008 champ said, grinning like a Cheshire cat. 'Going into the weekend, I said that I would be taking each race as it comes. So this win today was a really positive result. But there's still a long way to go, and a lot will depend on consistency and pace.'

He had to fight for the win, with only two tenths of a second separating the leaders. 'You had to do everything as perfectly as you could – aggressive at one moment and controlled at the next,' he said.

It would be ambitious though to say that Hamilton is back in the hunt for the championship – as he is still 82 points of run away leader Sebastian Vettel. The British driver stopped short of issuing a battle cry, saying: The battle for the championship is now going to get very, very tough," predicted the Nürburgring winner. We're back in contention, and I really hope we can carry on like this and keep the momentum going.'
