It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane…

It’s been almost 12 years since Andy Green set the land speed record back in 1997, and the former fighter pilot is getting ready to team up again with Richard Noble, another land speed record legend, to shatter the old record, quite possibly with a 1,000 mph (1,610 kph) car.

The Bloodhound SSC looks more like a missile than any existing land vehicle, and will be powered by a rocket bolted to a Typhoon-Eurofighter jet engine. The team has been working on this for the last 18 months, and plan to make the attempt by 2011.
