What is the best Japanese hybrid car?

If you're looking to do your bit for Planet Earth, then investing in a Japanese hybrid car is one way you can go about it. The original and best of these Japanese hybrids is the Toyota Prius, and in this blog we'll be waxing lyrical about the benefits of investing in one of these technological marvels.

The Toyota Prius is based on some stunningly clever technology. The idea is that a conventional petrol engine couples with a battery powered electric motor to improve both efficiency, and lead to lower emmisions, thus helping the planet out a little, and keeping more money in your pocket!

The latest Prius model, the Mk 3, has a new 1.8-litre engine, increasing power by 24 per cent to 134bhp. The best part is, you'll never have to charge the battery, as when you hit the brakes, they act like a generator, charging the battery right then and there. The new "Eco" mode even lets you run the car briefly on just electric power. It's a baby step, but it's one in the right direction!

Due to some generous tax breaks when you purchase, the £17,732 - £23,380 won't feel like such a hard pill to swallow. Especially considering the electric battery will be saving you plenty in petrol costs. In fact, any journey of less than 12 miles (which you can exclusively use the battery power on) will essentially be free! You can't argue with that.

So if you're looking for an economical Japanese hybrid, you can't do much better than the Toyota Prius - it's a gem!
