Lotus wants to follow in the footsteps of the German manufacturer Porsche, company boss Dany Bahar told Autocar.
Faced with observations that the firm is trying to make a British Ferrari, Bahar said: ‘Not at all – actually we’re trying to make a British Porsche.’
The company plans to introduce five new sports cars by 2016 to rival Porsche and Aston Martin. This includes an all-new Esprit in 2013, replacing the Elise and Evora and rivalling the Aston Martin DB9 and Rapide.
The firm has also revealed that the new Esprit will be powered with an all-new Hethel-engineered V8 and the other models with a new V6.
Sounds like a tasty new motor.
