Maserati officially presented the new Quattroporte at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The flagship of the Trident brand was unveiled by Maserati CEO Harald Wester, Fiat chairman John Elkann and Fiat’s CEO Sergio Marchionne.
The 2014 Masarati Quattroporte will be larger, lighter and faster than the version it replaces. The saloon will also feature luxurious interior and unprecedented high-technology, which will be set a new standard for the next generation models of the exclusive Italian manufacturer.
The sixth generation flagship offers two engines, a 3.8-litre V8 unit and a 3.0-litre V6, both equipped with twin-turbochargers, which have been designed by Maserati Powertrain and assembled by Ferrari in Maranello. Specifically, the V6 engine produces maximum power output of 410 horsepower and peak torque of 550 Nm and accelerates from standstill to 100 km / h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 285 km / h (177 mph). The two extra cylinders provide the V8 with an output of 530 hp and 710 Nm peak torque, which push the saloon from 0-100 km / h in 4.7 seconds and to a top speed of 307 km / h.
Both V6 and V8 versions are equipped with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The car comes with rear wheel drive, but the V6 twin-turbo variant is also available with all-wheel drive. Despite its large size (5,262 mm in length, 1,948 mm in width and 1,481 mm in height) the new Quattroporte retains a very good handling, thanks to the 50:50 weight distribution, double wishbone front suspension, and five-link rear suspension.
Luxurious and exclusive are the design and features of the Quattroporte's new passenger compartment. Hand-crafted details, comfortable sports seats made of fine materials and increased leg-room are just few of the characteristics of this exquisite saloon. Packed with high-technology the car is fitted with Maserati Touch Control screen infotainment system, adjustable pedals, reverse cameras, 15-speaker, 1280 Watt Bowers & Wilkins audio system and WLAN-based WiFi.
The 2014 Maserati Quattroporte will be on sale in the UK from Summer, with a price tag of £80,070 for the V6 version and £108,125 for the V8.
