The British car industry was given a huge boost today (18th of March), thanks to the news that McLaren is to build a fleet of its new sports cars here in the UK. Car markets across the world have been deeply affected by the global recession so today’s announcement will also be welcomed by those seeking employment.
The first McLaren to be part of the production line in Woking will be the eagerly anticipated new supercar the MP4-12C, which is due to go on sale at the end of 2011 and will cost a meagre £150,000. Talking about the plan chairman Ron Dennis said; ‘Following any recession, there's a resurgence. We intend to catch that wave. Our volumes are very much linked to how we see the recovery.’
A thousand cars are expected to be produced in Woking by the end of next year.
