Michelin Challenge Design finalists
The latest Michelin Challenge Design contest finalists will exhibit their work at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in January with the theme: “America’s Next Iconic Vehicle—Unique—Emotional—Courageous.”
The requirements for the latest contest are: illustrations of their concept design, a brief description of the concept design that includes technologies or any element that shows how the design solution achieves the theme requirements, design factors of the entry that benefit safety and the environment and descriptions of these design factors and benefits (additional points rewarded for entries with this particular attribute).
Qualified participants to the contest included OEM design studios, independent design studios, individual designers, academic transportation design students and teams, and automotive suppliers. The design entries by these folks will be judged by the following criteria: relevance to theme, concept originality, design value and quality, developmental potential, and design displayability.
So far 32 designers have made the final cut, coming from various parts of the world. One of the finalists,Gabor Magyari from Hungary, showed a futuristic version of the iconic Mack truck that looked like it came from the Transformers’ homeworld, Cybertron.
Promoting the idea of sustainable mobility, the Michelin Challenge Design Contest mainly showcases ideas and concepts without the usual economic or engineering constraints. Finalists are those who were able to push the boundaries and create truly innovative designs.
