New Mclaren engine facility

Engineering firm Ricardo has opened a new production facility for its its McLaren MP4-12C engine, which was opened by Mclaren boss Ron Dennis last week.

The project for the new engine has taken just 18 months from briefing to the start of production. A total of 17 assembly specialists will build the engine, and the plan is to build one every 45 minutes with a maximum capacity of 2000 models a year.

Ron Dennis claims that the new Ricardo-developed is 'a new type of performance-car engine; an engine that is already generating critical acclaim for its balance of segment-leading power and efficiency, as well as driveability.'

With CO2 emissions of just 279g/km in the EU Combined cycle, Ricardo are certain they have developed the world’s greenest supercar engine.

'It should have a sticker on the side saying I’m doing my bit for the environment,' said local MP Tim Loughton.
