No idling

Boris Johnson continues what some claim to be his ’war on motorists’ by steep increases to fines for motorists who park their cars and leave the engine running

The Mayor has sent a letter to Transport Secretary Philip Hammond to ask him to raise fines from the current level of GBP20 to GBP120.

However, before you start running a cold sweat, there still is hope for you motorists who love to idle away the hours with your engines on whilst you do nothing in particular – a spokesperson for the Transport Secretary was quoted in The Telegraph as saying:

’For us to consider a case for increasing the penalty, we need to see clear evidence of the level of non compliance. If there proves to be an issue with non compliance, we will be happy to work with the Mayor on considering his proposal.’
