Pirelli has been chosen as the official tyre supplier for the 2009-2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup, the first racing series in the world for zero-carbon cars.
Founded in 2008, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup is a race among 30 factory-prepared-and-managed 2009 Jetta TDIs with clean-diesel engines; helmed by relatively unknown talented drivers aged 16 to 26. Volkswagen’s mission is to break in talented drivers into the world of professional motorsports.
Each car in the Jetta TDI Cup is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TDI clean diesel engine. The 2009 Jetta TDI clean diesel that the race car is based on won the 2009 Green Car of the Year from Green Car Journal. Volkswagen has even teamed up with Carbonfund.org to certify the race series as carbon-free.
Pirelli aims to create and support more eco-friendly products and projects like the race.
Pirelli Tire North America, makes tyres for passenger vehicles in both the original equipment and replacement markets, including motorcycles and motorsports.
