Rowan Atkinson escapes supercar crash

As Mr Bean actor Rowan Atkinson was more accustomed to driving a Mini. But in reality, the Blackadder star has always had a taste for fast cars, which at the weekend led to him crashing a £650,000 Mclaren F1 supercar on the A605 in Haddon, near Peterborough.

Mr Atkinson has been released from hospital after reportedly spinning off the road and hitting a tree, an action that set the vehicle on fire.

The 56-year-old actor walked away unscathed from the scene, and was looked after by another motorists until the emergency services arrived. He was taken by ambulance to Peterborough District Hospital with a minor shoulder injury.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed: 'Crews brought the fire under control by 8.13pm. They made the vehicle safe and used one hose reel to put out the fire. There was one casualty but he was not trapped.'

Atkinson has a reputation for loving fast cars after he appeared on Top Gear to record the fastest time during the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment of the show. His time of 1 minute 42.2 seconds to complete the Top Gear circuit was the fastest ever time on the show, somewhat befitting of a driver of an McLaren F1, the car involved in the accident, which ranks as one of the fastest production cars in the world, reaching a top speed that nudges 230mph.

At the time, Atkinson told presenter Jeremy Clarkson that he was currently driving a 1964 Ford Falcon.

Must have been the other car.
