Slowly does it

We're in a hurry to get out of the recession, but in our cars we're slowing down, as it's been revealed that over half of all drivers are taking it easy behind the wheel and driving slower in order to save money.

A survey of 3000 respondents carried out by Manheim Auctions also found that around 60% of motorists admit that the continuing economic uncertainty has changed the way they use their cars, compared with 34 percent who said the same thing this time last year.

Nowadays 26% of motorists prefer to shop online instead of getting in the car and driving to the shops. 17% use public transport to get to and return from work. Another 10% have opted to work more from home.

Craig Mailey, Marketing Director at Manheim Auctions, made this comment about the survey: 'There is no doubt that more and more motorists are now thinking twice before using their cars. When the time comes to change their car it seems that more are also considering a secondhand car as increased demand for smaller, fuel efficient vehicles at auctions demonstrates.'
