Stoner Wins MotoGP in Valencia

Australian Casey Stoner survived an early challenge and the warm, dry weather, and rode his Ducati to top honours at the final MotoGP of the season in Valencia, Spain last Sunday. The victory was Stoner’s sixth for the year.

Stoner, the runner-up for the championship, finished with a time of 46 minutes 46.114 seconds. Spaniard Dani Pedrosa of Honda, the local favourite, clocked in some three seconds later, while Italian Valentino Rossi of Yamaha finished third.

Almost 120,000 spectators were on-hand as Pedrosa was the first to get to the first turn, but Stoner soon regained the lead and opened up a large gap on the rest of the pack.

Another Spaniard, Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha finished eighth and won the ‘rookie of the year’ award, edging out fourth place finisher Italian Andrea Dovizioso of Honda.
