Teenage girl crashes car with 8 passengers in it

A 13-year-old girl from Swansea was behind the wheel of a car carrying 8 passengers when it crashed.

The mother of the girl was teaching her to drive and had let sitting on her lap when the accident occurred, a court heard yesterday.

‘The mother was sitting on a 14-year-old's lap when her daughter lost control of the car and struck a bin before colliding with a building,’ the prosecutor told Swansea magistrates.

‘She told police she had allowed her daughter to drive but hadn't realised a car park was deemed a public place.’

‘She said she tried to activate the handbrake but was unable to prevent the collision.’

There were six teenage passengers in the vehicle, all of whom escaped with only minor injuries.
