While riding his Vespa scooter to work, Andrea was hit by a car on the outskirts of Turin early in the morning of August 7, 2008.
The car design firm, Pinifarina has designed cars for the likes of Ferrari, Alfa-Romeo, Rolls-Royce, Volvo and Maserati; and is one of the top auto industry giants in Italy.
Recent cars designed by the Pinifarinadesign group include the Alfa-Romeo Spider cabriolet, the Ferrari California roadster, Maserati GranTurismo coupe, Mitsubishi Colt CZC coupe-cabriolet, and the Volvo C70 coupe-convertible.
Although plagued by low profits in recent years, Andrea, before his untimely death, had negotiated an 80m pound cash injection from investors that would help the company enter the emerging Asian market and try manufacturing and designing electronic vehicles.
Born on June 26, 1957, Andrea had been working for the family company since 1983 when he oversaw the design for the new Cadillac Allanté. He was a mechanical engineer from Turin Polytechnic before entering the car design firm. Andrea became general manager in 1988, managing director in 1994 and CEO in 2001. Andrea is survived by his wife Cristina and their three children Benedetta, Sergio and Lucathree.
