UK Focused Peugeot 208 GTi Limited Edition Announced
The new Peugeot 208 is lighter than the 207 and yet it offers more cabin room than its predecessor. There’s 285 litres of boot space, which is 15 litres more than the 207 and legroom has been improved by 5cm. The windscreen is wide and steeply raked so visibility’s good and yet the drag coefficient is low at 0.29, which is on par with the Toyota Prius.
Although the new 208 has some impressive statistics, it won’t be very quick in standard trim. There is a choice of engines including a 68 hp 1.0 litre VTi, which is the entry-level, a 1.2 litre with 82 hp, a 1.4 litre with 95 hp and a 1.6 THP that produces 156 hp. But Peugeot have reserved the top power for the GTi, which comes with an uprated 1.6 litre powerplant that pushes out 200 hp and 275 Nm of torque. The GTi is capable of a 0 to 62 time of 6.8 seconds in the right hands and accelerates to 140 mph.
For those who want the performance of the GTi but need a bit more exclusivity, Peugeot have now announced the creation of the GTi Limited Edition. Just 29 cars will be sold in the UK, each one celebrates a year since the very first GTi was sold in Britain. That original car was the 205 GTi. It was so successful in the UK that the French car maker has designed the limited edition to appeal to British motorists, so there are Union Jack flags featured on the car’s grille and the UK will get more cars than any other nation.
It has twin chrome exhausts, a rear spoiler and parking sensors. Part leather seats and a flat bottom steering wheel with a red stripe at the 12 o’clock position like racing car drivers have to tell them when the front wheels are straight, make this a sporty cabin.
Each will be given an individual number and as only 54 will be sold around the world, this is a limited edition that will increase in value the second it rolls off the production line.
