VW green credentials slammed

A report by Greenpeace is critical over Volkswagen's track record on green issues, claiming the German carmaker hasn't done enough on fuel efficiency gains and aims to scupper the EU plan to drastically lower carbon emissions by 2020.

Its report 'The Dark Side of Volkswagen' contains claims that the firm has restricted fuel efficient engines to a small minority of vehicles and then bumped the price up for customers.

While if true, VW wouldn't be the only carmaker to try this tactic, the report goes further, by comparing VW's average drop in carbon emissions of 7.8 percent to rivals BMW's 18 percent and Toyota's 14 percent.

'VW is at the heart of a group of companies lobbying against new laws which we need to cut CO2 emissions, reduce our oil use and protect places like the Arctic from climate change,' claimed Greenpeace.
