You too can 'drive' the British Grand Prix

How many miles do you think grand rix drivers have to put in to become as good as they are at driving around in circles? The answer is: not as much as you think.

That's because half the practice time they put in is spent in darkened rooms with incredibly realistic Grand Prix simulators.

The level of accuracy is such that most teams will know what they can expect from their cars before placing a tyre on the track.

And top of the tree is the simulator developed by McLaren, which even measures the performance-enhancing effects of aerodynamic upgrades and the impact of tyre degradation on lap times.

Totally absorbing, having a go on one of these machines will make even the most ardent armchair critic understand what Vettel, Alonso, Hamilton et al have to go through week in week out.
